Prog Sphere: Welcome, Jordany! Can you share a bit about your musical journey and how you got started in the world of progressive/experimental rock?
Secondmoses: Hello! Thank you for having me. I started my musical journey at the age of 15, inspired by the legendary Black Sabbath. Eventually, I found my way into the realms of progressive rock when I stumbled upon King Crimson’s “Discipline” in high school. That album changed everything for me, and I knew I wanted to explore a different musical path.
Let’s dive into your featured track on the compilation, “Sky People.” What was the inspiration or story behind this piece?
“Sky People” is born out of my love for science fiction and the electronic sounds of Tangerine Dream. It’s part of the larger Secondmoses mythos, serving as the origin story of the universe in my musical journey.
Walk us through your creative process. How do you approach writing and composing music, especially in comparison to your previous efforts?
For me, it all starts with a melody, whether played on guitar or synth. I like to switch between both during the creative process. I often build my compositions around specific guitar pedals or sounds that catch my ear while listening to my favorite musicians. “Sky People 1: The Story” is distinct from my previous work, leaning more towards synth sounds compared to the guitar-centric approach of my earlier release.
Who or what are your major influences in progressive rock, and how do they impact your musical style?
There are so many influences, but King Crimson’s “Discipline” had a profound impact on me. Adrian Belew’s magical synth/guitar work blew me away. Growing up as a black kid loving rock music, I found inspiration in the unique guitar work of artists like Adrian and Robert Fripp.

What challenges have you faced as an artist in the scene, and how have you overcome them?
One significant challenge has been finding like-minded musicians in Florida’s limited music scene. Turning to social media to connect with other musicians has been a game-changer, allowing me to collaborate with some of the best musicians.
How do you see the music scene evolving, and what role do you believe your music plays in that evolution?
The music scene outside Florida is flourishing, with numerous acts pushing boundaries. I aim to contribute to this evolution with my unique and different music, showcasing personality and individuality.
Share with us some of the most memorable moments in your musical journey so far.
Meeting my guitar hero Robin Trower was surreal. His music pulled me through a tough time, and having a conversation with him after a show was a truly memorable experience.
Do you have a personal favorite among your own compositions?
“Raspberry Lemonade” from my last release holds a special place. It’s a coming-out party, expressing 15 years’ worth of frustrations in one track through a massive guitar solo.
Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re working on?
I’m part of a group called Our Science Teacher, and though we’re on hiatus, we’ll be back with a brand new album. Stay tuned!
What does it mean to you to be a part of our compilation, and how has the experience been for you?
Being part of this compilation is a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to be part of something significant, and I can’t wait to embark on this new journey with you all.
Any message you’d like to convey to fans discovering your music through this compilation?
Thank you for tuning in! Dive into “Sky People: The Story” and let the music take you into the cosmos, bathing you in the stars. I appreciate your support!
If you could collaborate with any artist, living or not, who would it be?
Pharoah Sanders. His musicality and the way he breathes life into his music are truly iconic.
If you had to pick one instrument (besides your primary one) to master, what would it be?
Piano, definitely. I’m still learning, and it’s not easy, but I wish I had picked it up sooner.
What’s your all-time favorite progressive rock album?
“Discipline” by King Crimson. It’s ahead of its time and otherworldly.
Are there non-musical influences that find their way into your music?
Absolutely. Literature, science, and art all play a role. I even personally draw the covers for my albums, and I’m working on creating comic books for each one.
Any final thoughts or reflections you’d like to share with our audience?
Thank you for the interview! I hope to reach my audience and meet them during future performances. A big thanks for this opportunity to be part of the compilation.
