Gorlami‘s latest offering, “Between Two Worlds,” takes listeners on a sonic trip through realms that straddle the boundaries of dystopia and reality, dreams and truths. This Swiss quartet, firmly rooted in the northern part of Switzerland, has crafted a compelling narrative within their melodic post-rock framework, enriched with a tantalizing prog/psych touch.

The album opens with the energizing and at moments hauntingly atmospheric “Opportunities,” a track that sets the tone for the entire journey. The guitars create a nuanced soundscape that feels like the soundtrack to, in the band’s words, a cyberpunk film noir.

“Foggy Morning” follows, maintaining the band’s signature sound with a dreamlike quality. The interplay between guitars is masterful, evoking a sense of mystery and introspection. The melodic waves draw you deeper into the album’s narrative, blurring the line between the tangible and the ethereal.

“Duty Calls” introduces a rhythmic intensity with the steady pulse of the drums. The band’s commitment to a do-it-yourself ethos is evident here, as every beat feels meticulously crafted. The singer’s voice, while sparingly used, adds a human touch to the cosmic journey, creating a connection between the listener and the vast, interstellar landscapes painted by the music. This piece was a part of our recent compilation, “Progstravaganza: Harmony in Complexity.”

The three-part “Between Two Worlds,” serves as the centerpiece of the album. “Prologue,” “Transformation,” and “Conclusion” take the listener through a captivating exploration of the transition between reality and dream. The guitars weave intricate melodies, and each movement unfolds like scenes in a cinematic masterpiece. The instrumental prowess of Gorlami shines through, creating an immersive experience that transcends traditional song structures.

As the album concludes with “Between Two Worlds (Conclusion), Pt. 3,” there’s a sense of fulfillment, like emerging from a vivid dream. Clocking in at just under five minutes, this final piece encapsulates the essence of the entire journey, bringing the listener back to the tangible reality after a mesmerizing sonic expedition.

“Between the Planets” is a testament to Gorlami‘s ability to construct expansive musical landscapes that engage the listener’s imagination. The fusion of melodic post-rock and neo-psychedelia creates an otherworldly experience, making this album a must-listen for those seeking a musical escape into decaying metropolises and bewildering dreams.
