Coming all the way from Dunedin, New Zealand, Robots in Love, an electronic rock quartet, brings their unique blend of sound to Progotronics 47 with their latest single, “The Sequel.” Combining synth-driven melodies, industrial grit, and hard-hitting metal elements, the track delivers an auditory experience that challenges the listener in the most exhilarating way possible.

Led by the magnetic and dynamic frontwoman Elenor Rayner, Robots in Love seamlessly merge the raw energy of metal with the hypnotic pulse of electronic music. With “The Sequel,” the band might just invent a new form of expression—headbang dancing. If such a concept didn’t exist before, this group from New Zealand ensures it becomes a movement.

The track wastes no time grabbing your attention. Opening with a pulsating synth arpeggio and an irresistible electronic beat, it swiftly escalates into an auditory spectacle. A cascade of industrial metal crashes through, striking the listener like a sonic boom. The mid-tempo arrangement lends itself to the dance floor while simultaneously evoking the smoky, neon-lit atmosphere of ’80s gothic clubs.

Elenor Rayner’s vocal delivery is commanding. Her entrancing melodies intertwine effortlessly with the song’s multiple layers, narrating a tale that seems to explore a provocative and futuristic connection—perhaps even a forbidden love—between humans and machines. The combination of Rayner’s evocative storytelling and the track’s relentless energy creates a hypnotic allure that’s hard to resist.

The song’s production leans heavily on its electronic foundation, with synth lines dominating the mix in a manner reminiscent of the ’80s synthwave era. This retro sensibility adds a nostalgic charm, yet the track remains fiercely contemporary. The industrial edge and judiciously placed guitar riffs, courtesy of Mik Thornley, inject a raw power, cutting through the electronic haze with a satisfying gravitas. When the guitars emerge, they do so with authority, providing a perfect counterbalance to the shimmering synth layers.

“The Sequel” invites a multitude of responses from its audience. Whether you find yourself headbanging, singing along, or losing yourself to the rhythm on a dance floor, the track refuses to impose boundaries. It’s an anthem of pure expression, where the only rule is to let the music move you however it may.

Robots in Love have written a song that is as much a throwback as it is a leap forward, blending nostalgia with innovation. Just like the music, your reaction is up to you without any restrictions.
