Born in Exile‘s latest offering, “Major Arcana,” takes us on a trip through progressive metal. Led by the commanding vocals of Kristina Vega, this Barcelona-based band has elevated their sound to new heights, solidifying their place in the metal scene. Having previously graced stages across Spain, including the iconic Rock Fest Barcelona and Can Mercader Fest, Born in Exile‘s evolution is evident in every note of this compelling album.

The opening track, “The Fortune Teller,” serves as a brief yet captivating prelude, setting the stage for the sonic exploration that follows.

The journey truly begins with “III The Empress (The Fifth Element),” a track that showcases Kristina Vega‘s versatile vocals against a backdrop of complex rhythms and intricate guitar work. The marriage of melodic elements and fierce intensity creates a dynamic listening experience that draws the listener deeper into the album’s narrative.

The cryptically titled “nooM ehT XVIII” further demonstrates Born in Exile‘s prowess in crafting immersive soundscapes. It unfolds with a combination of atmospheric textures and progressive nuances, offering a sonic tapestry that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.

The Arcane XIII trilogy, comprising “The Hunt,” “Dreamcatcher,” and “Conflagration,” stands as the magnum opus of “Major Arcana.” The trilogy, totaling over 22 minutes, which can be heard on “Progstravaganza: Harmony in Complexity,” is a sonic expedition that explores the band’s progressive influences to the fullest. “The Hunt” kicks off with a thunderous energy, leading seamlessly into the dreamlike atmosphere of “Dreamcatcher.” The trilogy concludes with the intense “Conflagration,” an eight-and-a-half minute epic that showcases Born in Exile’s ability to weave intricate musical landscapes.

From the captivating vocal delivery of Kristina Vega to the complex arrangements and thematic storytelling, each track on “Major Arcana” contributes to the overall narrative of the album. Whether you’re a seasoned fan or new to their sound, the album is a captivating exploration that pushes the boundaries of progressive metal, leaving an indelible mark on the listener. Born in Exile has not just released an album; they’ve crafted an immersive experience that demands attention and appreciation.
