Once upon a scorching summer in 2021, in the heart of Bulgaria, a group of passionate musicians came together with a shared love for metal. And so, the tale of Crisis Unfold began. Their creative chemistry, a fusion of metalcore with diverse influences, spontaneously gave birth to a unique sound that resonated from their hearts.

As they joined forces, guitarist Georgi Kardjov and bassist Lyubomir Vidov found themselves in a creative jam session that birthed the featured track on Prog Sphere‘s “Progstravaganza: Harmony in Complexity” compilation – “Destroy the Sun.” In a matter of minutes, the song materialized, a testament to the band’s seamless unity of ideas.

The band’s creative process follows an old-school path, where guitars and bass led the way, paving the rhythm for the drums and vocals. In the era of home studios and digital collaborations, Crisis Unfold finds solace in the shared vibrations of their rehearsal room.

In the vast landscape of metalcore, the band draws inspiration from foundational acts like As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage, along with local heroes from Bulgaria and a myriad of other influences spanning hardcore, 90s metal, new metal, and alternative sounds. The result is their recent album, “A Dream Surreal,” a testament to their dedication and diverse musical roots.

Yet, the path in the metal scene is not without its challenges. For Crisis Unfold, the struggle lies in avoiding the pitfalls of sounding like any other band in the genre. Recognition, they believe, comes from hard work, an open mind, and a willingness to adapt when needed. Another hurdle is finding a record label willing to release their future records.

Reflecting on the evolution of the music scene, the band acknowledges the constant blend of styles by new musicians. Still, they miss the golden era, when recording an album was a rare feat, making each release a potential classic.

Amidst the challenges, Crisis Unfold cherishes the moments that define their journey – the joy of completing a new song during rehearsals and the ecstasy of a live performance when the crowd goes wild. Their expectations for the future are grand, but their focus remains on staying true to themselves.

Amid their repertoire, one composition stands out for guitarist Georgi – “Carved In Stone.” It embodies the band’s essence, balancing brutality with melody, and narrates a story deeply rooted in reality.

Looking ahead, Crisis Unfold is already immersed in their second release, promising a sound that retains its core but ventures into heavier territories. The addition of a second guitarist brings a new dynamic to their music, a development they eagerly embrace.

In their own words, being part of Prog Sphere‘s compilation is a milestone for the band, offering a gateway to the metal and hardcore community. The experience is met with gratitude, acknowledging the respect they hold for everyone involved.

To fans discovering their music through this compilation, Crisis Unfold imparts a simple message – savor both new and classic music, reminding everyone of the timeless beauty found in the old classics.

In a quickfire round, the band dreams of collaborating with the late Matt Holt of Nothingface and expresses a love for the piano’s versatility. Their all-time favorite metalcore album is Killswitch Engage‘s “Alive Or Just Breathing,” a timeless piece that they believe will captivate future generations.

Beyond music, the band draws inspiration from the works of Stephen King and the world of cinema, weaving non-musical influences into their creative tapestry.

As the interview draws to a close, Crisis Unfold leaves the audience with a simple yet profound message – be real, stay true to yourself, embrace the new, and give the music of the past a chance.

For those eager to explore more of Crisis Unfold’s sonic universe, their music is available on various platforms, including Bandcamp.
