Absolutely Lana Lane! even if her career is winding down her voice is unforgettable and her craft is impeccable. She is like the Karen Carpenter of Symphonic Rock.
Tarja Turunen deserves at least honorable mention, having brought the Female Fronted Metal genre to the masses like no one before.
Lets not forget Jon Anderson — oh wait, he just sings like a girl … my bad.
No really the author misses
Christina Murphy (Now Christina Booth) of Magenta
Jessica Lehto of Factory of Dreams has got some serious range and isnlt afraid of really getting out there vocally
Andrea Dätwyler of Lunatica does some of the smoothest yet powerful prog singing in the biz.
Beto Vasquez Infinity has a lot of great female vocalists on his ensemble albums (really great)
and (if you can find it ) a Rock Opera called “Missa Mercuria” is a must hear.
Touchstone has a great female vocalist (Kim Seviour) and writes some really good songs and does a progressive male/female harmony singing thing that is really emotional. The band is going more metal as time goes on, though …
Last but not least is Persephone (Sonja Kraushofer) who sings what i would call progressive gothic ballads.
And what about Margriet Mol from Asrai, surley unique where it comes to female fronted bands. Not at all symphonic, but an awesome front lady, and highly under rated.
Check out Stay with me and Pale Light.
I am a bit sick of the whole Within Temptation wanna bees, also check out Lotus and the Cobra, also awesome,
Regards
Jett.
Um…I like Blackmore’s Night fine, but Candace Night is nowhere near the level of these other women. No dynamics, no power. Surely you could find a more worthy addition.

It’s kinda funny that literally half of these singers are from Ayreon at some point.

Ida Haukland would put half of these people to shame.

Anyone who has guest-starred on Ayreon’s albums could be on this list. Funny enough, Lana Lane and Heather Findlay have too.
