The longest-running progressive music festival in the world, ProgDay, will feature the return of two of the finest bands to perform on the Storybook Farm stage during the 22-year history of the event.
The highly acclaimed Deus Ex Machina from Italy and Cuneiform Records artists Bent Knee will headline the annual ProgDay International Progressive Music Festival, which will be held Sept. 3 and 4 at Storybook Farm outside of Chapel Hill.
In an exclusive United States performance, the original lineup of Deus Ex Machina returns to ProgDay to ignite the Storybook stage with music from its first release in eight years, another outstanding mix of rock, fusion and even blues rock. Long-time ProgDay attendees will remember the band’s incendiary performance in 1996. The band will close out Saturday’s opening day with a set that begins at 5:15 p.m.
Often hailed as one of the finest progressive rock bands to come from the United States, Detroit’s Discipline returns to the ProgDay stage for the first time in 16 years. The band released several CDs in the 1990s, and a fourth studio album in 2011. They will take the stage at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, paving the way for Bent Knee to close out the festival.
ProgDay ’16 will continue its tradition of a diverse lineup of progressive musical styles from several countries. The rest of the lineup includes Luz de Riada, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Eye, In The Presence Of Wolves, and Ad Astra.
Taking their cues from the likes of King Crimson, Yes, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, the groups offer a diversity of progressive music that has been a hallmark of previous ProgDay festivals.
The music starts at 10:30 a.m. on both Saturday, Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4. The family-friendly and fun atmosphere also will include vendors who will provide rare opportunities to buy hard-to-get progressive rock recordings. Single-day and weekend passes are available.
