Hear Lee Fletcher’s Version Of Mike Oldfield’s “Islands”

The title track to Oldfield’s 1987 album has been reinterpreted by Unsung Productions artists/producers Lee Fletcher and Markus Reuter, with vocals by Lisa Fletcher. Guest players include Tony Levin, guitarist Tim Motzer (David Sylvian) and The Quohren Quartet. The track has been mastered by Oldfield’s Tubular Bells co-producer, Simon Heyworth.

Listen to the song below.

Mike’s original sounded quite contemporary at the time,” says Fletcher, “however the arrangement and production place it firmly in 1987. We’ve taken a different musical approach, mixing traditional/celtic instrumentation with ethereal soundscapes and rich vocal harmonies.

Mike’s music has greatly influenced my own,” adds Reuter. “It’s a real pleasure for me to work on this special song in the year of his 60th birthday.
