Week 22: 7 Bands to Get You Through This Week

This week starts with Tuesday. It’s not that we, at Prog Sphere, are lazy, but due to the fact that yesterday we kicked off the first round of the Prog Sphere Hall of Fame. But we didn’t forget your dose of 7 bands to get you through this week.

Check out the following bands.

Psycrence – A Frail Deception

Psycrence is a melodic heavy metal band based in Athens, Greece. Through their music Psycrence attempt to combine the aggressiveness and heavy sound of 7string guitars with melody and atmosphere. They write music infused with progressive elements but which, at the same time, remains focused and direct. Some of their influences include Dream Theater, Nevermore, Symphony X, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry.” It’s what they wrote, so if you are intrigued, why not checking some new progressive metal from Greece.

Distant Signals – Resonance

This progressive metal is more djenty. Distant Signals come from Minnesota and Resonance is their debut EP. The band says that Resonance combines technical rhythms with heavy riffs and soaring guitar melodies.

CHON – Woohoo!

San Diego based CHON is definitely one of the most forward-thinking bands on the progressive scene currently. Perhaps that could be attributed to their approach of writing music for the sake of fun, therefore their tunes do not feel forceful. Woohoo! is the title of their second EP released in March this year. Must check!

Noneuclid – Metatheosis

How about some progressive space death metal? That’s how Noneuclid tags themselves. This is a band comprised from the members of Obscura, ReVamp, Dark Fortress and Triptykon, what implies that the quality is guaranteed. Metatheosis is their sophomore release. Check it below.

Mamoth – Polymorphism

If Steven Hawking and Oprah Winfrey had a love child that could shred, it would produce something fairly close to the sounds of Mammoth… That’s it.

Transcendency – The Odyssey

The band has successfully blended skill and many aspects of progressive metal to create a sound that captures melody and beauty, but is relentless in its aggressiveness and determination for the listener to hear its feelings. Transcendency has begun their journey to become one of the notable names in the progressive metal community and is releasing their debut full length The Odyssey soon.

Mothersloth – Moribund Star

Instrumental stoner rock from Madrid, Spain. You may know them from our latest Progstravaganza XVIII: Transforma compilation. The band have just put out their second album Moribund Star.

Nikola Savić is a prog enthusiast, blogger and author, in addition to being the founder of Prog Sphere, Progify, ProgLyrics and the ongoing Progstravaganza compilation series.
