Week 21: 7 Bands to Get You Through This Week

Last week we started a new feature on the website that will be recurring every Monday. It’s 7 bands (releases) to get you through a week and get you going. Yeah, Prog Sphere is understanding Mondays.

Here are seven choices for this week.

Shades of Black – Ocean

I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for the oriental influences in progressive metal. And Shades of Black is a one-man project of Matt Zuleger that brings together mentioned influences and wraps them up with djenty prog metal. Quality stuff.

Save Us from the Archon – Thereafter

Save Us from the Archon are from Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and these four dudes know their thing. Math driven rock blended with plenty of different elements such post-rock, hardcore, progressive metal, avant-garde, etc.

The Echelon Effect – Atlantic

This is very ambient filled instrumental post-rock. If it’s gonna rain this week, make sure to hear this one.

ForTiorI – Chronicles

Another one-man project, this time hailing from Bitburg in Germany. Jonathan Schnitzspan did an excellent job with Chronicles making an atmospheric, prog, ambient album with guest appearances from Gabe Mangold and Sithu Aye.

Shokran – Supreme Truth

More oriental driven progressive metal with death metal influences and whatnot? Why not! Shokran are from Russia and they delivered some great stuff on Supreme Truth.

Major Parkinson – Twilight Cinema

Somewhere in between pop and psychosis, somber poetry and dark rock, there is Major Parkinson. A fearless and distinctly different band, with a fresh, unconventional approach to the art of writing music.” – That’s the best description you’ll ever get for the Bergen based sextet.

Fleshworld – Like we’re all equal again

Fleshworld are coming from Krakow and they released their debut album Like we’re all equal again in December 2013. There is sludge, there is post-rock, ambient and some experimental stuff as well. You can check it below.

Nikola Savić is a prog enthusiast, blogger and author, in addition to being the founder of Prog Sphere, Progify, ProgLyrics and the ongoing Progstravaganza compilation series.
