Drums With Oisin recently interviewed Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake during the band’s stay in Dublin. Haake showcased his live rig that he’s been using on hist most recent European tour. Watch a full video below.
In an interview Haake did last year for mikedolbear.com, drummer said: “Since I was 10 years old I’d started listening to Rush. Rush was always with me – Neil Peart was and still is one of my great idols in music. It was a mix and mishmash of the metal but also drummers like Ian Mosley (Marillion). I had a period of listening to a lot of fusion like the Brecker Brothers with Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gary Husband, Dave Weckl with Chick Corea. When I joined Meshuggah, Fredrik was heavily into Allan Holdsworth and that kind of more free music. He always had excellent drummers and when I joined, the music was already influenced by those things. That part of me was taken up a notch and that’s where we remain. I’m not a fusion drummer but those influences are still in there and it’s still a way of thinking.“
Meshuggah‘s last album, The Violent Sleep of Reason, was released last October and it received great reviews.
