DREAM THEATER’s LABRIE & PETRUCCI: The New Music is “Heavy, Progressive, Melodic, Shredding & Epic”

James LaBrie & John Petrucci of Dream Theater

Dream Theater announced they’ve entered the studio a week ago to work on their 14th studio album and the follow-up to 2016′s The Astonishing, describing the process thus far as “sensational.”

Singer James LaBrie said in a new video (watch below):

I gotta tell you, if the first week is any indication of where this album’s going, you’re in for a treat… The style of the music – a lot of people will stand up and applaud at this point – there’s a heaviness to it, there’s an aggression to it. You’ve [John Petrucci] mentioned something earlier, what was it? The five…

Guitarist John Petrucci chimed in:

The five pillars of DT. [Laughs] I think everyone’s on the same page with the type of record this is going to be. So far, the music is heavy, it’s progressive, it’s melodic, shredding, and it’s also epic – the five pillars of Dream Theater.

James added:

Everyone is feeling it and there’s such an incredible synergy going on in here. This environment that we’re in, this particular studio – and no, we’re not revealing what studio – it’s so conducive to what we’re trying to attain.

Back in April, LaBrie said the guys were gearing up to enter studio in June and then release the album around February 2019, so it would seem that everything is going as planned. The Astonishing was released in January 2016.
