SYNAPTIK Launch Lyric Video for “White Circles”

SynaptiK (2017)

UK prog metal quintet SynaptiK unleashed their sophomore studio album, Justify & Reason, on March 10th through Defox Records (digital download), and via Divebomb Records in the US in a CD format. Today, April 10th, the album lands in various UK stores!

To promote the new album being available in stores across the UK through Plastic Head Distribution, SynaptiK have launched a lyric video for the third single “White Circles.” See it below.

Singer John Knight commented about the lyrical concept behind the song:

Lyrically, the song describes the story of one person’s dependency on medication, antipsychotic drugs, the decision whether to stop taking them and return to a natural state risking confusion and illness or to continue on, the side effects, the withdrawals, the risks. All overseen by the ‘God like’ psychiatrist.”

Singer John Knight worked for many years within the Mental Health system at management level and witnessed how the clients saw and described their experiences.

I spoke at length with a client about her feelings towards her medication and her psychiatrist. She told me her psychiatrist was ‘like a God,’ someone who oversaw all the choices she made and controlled her life. It made an impression and I wrote this song that night. Of course, not every story is the same and medication plays a very important and useful part of people’s life, it’s not an anti-medication song at all, but about the conflict a person has, the internal battle… Telling themselves ‘I’m well now, I don’t need these tablets’ without realising they feel this way because the medication is working, the side effects both being on and withdrawing can be severe.”

“White Circles” is a song with great progressive dynamics, light and shade, building to a frantic & blistering metallic end.

The album is available in a number of formats, including a special limited edition bundle deal, a double album (featuring a remix of their debut), vinyl and more! Check it out here.

SynaptiK - White Circles

About SynaptiK:

Since forming in 2012 from the ashes of such bands as Fifth Season, Inner Sanctum, and Twisted Autumn Darkness, the primary concern of Norwich, England’s SynaptiK has been musical intensity. Compartmentalizing SynaptiK‘s approach is as futile as attempting to cage a wild animal, but―nevertheless―traits of progressive metal seem ubiquitous, and a dark aura tends to cloak the band’s output.

When SynaptiK‘s debut, The Mechanisms of Consequence, was released in 2014, the press reacted with bewilderment. Near-perfect reviews became the norm, and one factor that seemed to be particularly appreciated was the group’s knack for fusing technical sophistication with traditional metal sonorities such as blast beats; powerful riffs; and screaming, Priest-styled melodic vocals.

In March of 2016, SynaptiK recorded their sophomore album―the epically diverse Justify & Reason, with Meyrick de la Fuente at Floodgate Studios in London. Justify & Reason finds SynaptiK placing a greater emphasis on their progressive tendencies, but also contains some of the group’s heaviest material to date. The end result is mandatory listening for fans of QueensrÿcheNevermoreWatchtower and Evergrey alike.

SynaptiK are Bloodstock Battle of the Band Winners 2014.
