STEVEN WILSON Talks Sacrificing Family for Music

Jarrett Bellini of Apparently This Matters recently conducted a video interview with Steven Wilson where he talked about sacrificing his family for the career in music, among other topics. You can watch the full vide below.

In the interview, Wilson comments: “Every time you make a decision, you make a choice in life – you are effectively closing off other options, and life is short, you can’t do everything. You have to make decisions. And the very process of making a decision is also a sacrifice. If you make a decision ‘I’m gonna be a musician,’ you’ve sacrificed all of these other options that could’ve been available to you. And that happens every day of our lives. Every time we make a decision we are effectively making compromises and sacrifices too.

I’m very prolific, I make a lot of records, I make a lot of music. The reason is I have a lot of time to make music because I don’t have a family, I don’t have kids.

Wilson also says, “Some people would look at me with incredible pity, some people would say: ‘You’ve never had kids,’ and they look at me with pity. And I say ‘No, don’t look pity me,’ because I feel good. I’m happy. I think that I made the right choice for me. Not everyone is meant to have the kids. I think I made the right choice, and I’m very happy with my life and my career.

Steven Wilson is currently working on his fifth solo album which is to be released later this year.
