RICK WAKEMAN To Tour Journey To The Center Of The Earth In 2014

Rick Wakeman is to take Journey To The Centre Of The Earth out on the road next year, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original album’s release.

Wakeman is to play Birmingham NIA April 29, London Royal Albert Hall 30, Glasgow Clyde Auditorium May 1, Bournemouth International Centre 3, Cardiff Arena 4. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Monday, July 1. You can get these from www.killilive.com, or by calling 0844 8718803.

The blockbuster show will feature a new, spectacular set designed by Roger Dean. This will have state-of-the-art graphics, with visuals projected on huge screens and backdrops. It’s to be a two-hour performance, with an interval. Wakeman will be joined by his own electric band, The English Rock Ensemble, as well as The Jules Verne Symphony Orchestra and Choir, plus an as yet unnamed narrator. And for this presentation, Wakeman has combined original and revised material from the Journey To The Centre of The Earth album with his 1999 sequel, Return To The Centre Of The Earth.

These will be the first of more than 100 dates being planned around the world for the show. And it will be trailed in a 10 minute calling-card format – with Wakeman, the band, orchestra, choir and full on-screen Dean visuals – at every arena performance of The Night Of The Proms in Europe during November and December. This will be the first time that a live trailer has been shown in arenas prior to the tour itself.

Incidentally, 2014 also marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Verne’s classic novel, on which Wakeman’s work is of course based.
