Mike Portnoy will be part of the Neal Morse Band for their European tour with the Flower Kings, the drummer has confirmed.
The double-top Prog-sponsored tour already reunited Transatlantic collaborators Morse and Roine Stolt – now another member of the supergroup will be part of their February-March trek.
Portnoy says in a brief statement: “Good news for my prog fans in Europe! I’m happy to announce I will be playing with Neal Morse for the NM/Flower Kings tour.”
Flower Kings mainman Stolt recently told Prog Magazine the shows will consist of members of both bands guesting on each others’ tracks, with a Transatlantic-themed finale every night.
He said: “We want to make a very special tour – to revive a bit of the early spirit of prog, when music was about jamming, friendship and fun. I can see lots of cool interaction that will culminate in a grand finale of Transatlantic music every night.”
Meanwhile, in a fan Q&A last week, Portnoy said he couldn’t see himself returning to Dream Theater after his shock 2010 departure. Asked if a reunion was possible he replied: “Not looking likely… They have done some irrefutable damage behind the scenes.”
