DREAM THEATER Celebrating Grammy Nomination
Dream Theater say their minds have been blown after being nominated for a Grammy Award.
Their track The Enemy Inside from their recent self-titled album has been shortlisted in the category of Best Metal Performance. It’s their second nomination, following a mention in 2012 for On The Backs Of Angels as Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance.
Dream Theater say in a statement: “News of our first nomination two years ago was amazing – now to be nominated for a second time is just mindblowing!
“We’re so proud to be included in such an awesome group of bands and extremely grateful to all the academy members who voted for us.
“To us, the acknowledgment, affirmation and recognition of progressive music by the Grammys is especially meaningful and rewarding for us. Best of luck to all the nominees – and thank you once again.”
The prog metal giants are up against Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Killswitch Engage and Volbeat. Elsewhere in the 2014 list, Muse are up for Best Rock Song for Panic Station; Tame Impala appear under Best Alternative Album for Lonerism; Brian Eno’s Lux could win Best New Age Album; and Primus’ Sailing On The Seas Of Cheese re-release gets a nod for Best Surround Sound Album.
Meanwhile, DT keyboardist Jordan Rudess has released his solo piano album All That Is Now. It contains 13 tracks and was performed on his favourite Steinway concert grand piano. Recording was funded through a PledgeMusic campaign, which also paid for an orchestral album, due early next year. The campaign is open for another 21 days while All That Is Now is now available via iTunes, CDBaby andAmazon.
Rudess says: “For years, I searched until I found the instrument of my dreams that would be the perfect extension of my musical thought, playing literally every piano I could find all over the world. I found my concert grand seven years ago.
“Ever since, my deepest musical connection occurs when I play my Steinway. It’s my lifetime goal to purely translate the music in my mind to my hands and then onto the keyboard. This album captures the magic of that connection.”
He’s also released an iPad app, Jordan Rudess Explores, which he says “looks at the intersection between the traditional and electronic world we all live in.” It’s on sale via the Apple iTunes Store.
