DAMON FOX Talks New BIGELF Album, Working With MIKE PORTNOY

Damon Fox

Damon Fox has confirmed the release of fourth Bigelf album, Into The Maelstrom – which features Mike Portnoy behind the drumkit – will be launched on March 3 via InsideOut.

Only Fox and longtime bassist Duffy Snowhill remain from the line-up who created Cheat The Gallows then dramatically split. But the mainman is sure the album marks the start of a new era for Bigelf.

He says: “I think Into The Maelstrom is the best record yet, and I believe it is a real gamechanger for the band. It’s gonna put us over the top!

“Psychedelic cinematic landscapes and melodic prog-doom set the stage for the new album. I can’t wait for fans old and new to experience all of its apocalyptic colour.”

He previously revealed that track titles include HypersleepEdge Of Oblivion and Theater Of Dreams. Discussing Portnoy’s involvement, Fox said: “I had been keeping in close touch with Mike after his very public and difficult departure from Dream Theater. My musical future seemed quite bleak and I was very vocal to Mike about not being able to sustain the band any longer on my own.

“He implored me to carry on. His encouragement and enthusiasm meant the world to me. Recognising that I needed some new allies, I asked him if he would help fight the good fight – and he readily agreed.”

He added: “I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new wondrous landscapes we’ve been sculpting. There are lots of surprises around the corner – stay tuned.”
